To me, Frank Zappa was the best guitarist ever.
-
Satisfaction - Rolling Stones
-
Bandwagon
"It couldn't be Anne" is a great song.
-
Dave Matthews Band and Limp Bizkit

90's, only 1 track per band and after taking XXX's advice:
1. Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under The Bridge
2. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
3. Beck - Loser
4. Spin Doctors - 2 Princes
5. Pearl Jam - Jeremy
6. Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
7. Counting Crows - Mr. Jones
8. Radiohead - Creep
9. Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings
10. Offspring - Self Esteem
11. Iggy Pop - The Passenger
12. Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
13. Stiltskin - Inside
14. Alanis Morisette - One
15. Sheryl Crow - If It Makes You Happy
16. Circus Monkey - It Couldn't Be Ann
17. Urge Overkill - Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon
-
I would actually use "The Passenger" by Iggy Pop.
-
I'm thinking about my 90's list now but any that doesn't include "Under The Bridge" is not worth considering.
-
I'd suggest making separate CDs for the 80's and the 90's.
For the 80's CD, I would definitely include:
1. SoftCell - Tainted Love
2. Eurithmics - Sweet Dreams
3. A-ha - Take On Me
4. Spandau Ballet - Gold
5. Depeche Mode - Little 15
6. Culture Club - Do You Really Want To Hurt Me (I hate this song, but it's so typical for the 80s)
7. Duran Duran - Wild Boys
8. Billy Idol - Sweet Sixteen (I'm not sure if this isn't early 90's)
9. T'Pau - China In Your Hand
10. The Smiths - Hand In Glove
11. R.E.M. - The One I Love
12. Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
13. Cinderella - Heartbreak Station (again, is this 80's?)
14. Metallica - One
15. U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
16. Tina Turner - The Best
17. David Bowie - Let's Dance

I've always wondered about the first line of Smashing Pumpkins' "Bullet With Butterfly Wings":
The world is a vampire, sent to drain
-
Yes, 'Walk of Life' sucks too. It's amazing that these two songs became such huge hits and 'Six Blade Knife' for example didn't (although after it was featured on the Desperado soundtrack, people at least heard it).
I can't believe I forgot this one! Celine Dion - the song that sank Titanic! Not only overrated - the kind of song that makes me wish I was deaf every time I hear it.
-
"The Doors"
-
The Doors - "When The Music's Over" would be a good choice. If it's only one song, it'd better be long - I think the live version of Led Zeppelin's "Dazed And Confused" would be OK too.
-
Megadeth's "Symphony of destruction" album is particularly good for working out with heavy weights.
-
I guess most wouldn't agree with me, but I think Dire Straits' 'Money for Nothing' is rather overrated too.
-
Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale" is no doubt the most melodic song of all time.
-
Art Tatum
-
It barely makes the Top 3 of the best Pink Floyd albums in my book - I like 'Wish You Were Here' and 'The Dark Side of the Moon' more than 'The wall'.
But of course all generalizations are false. It's difficult to compare even albums by the same band, let alone different styles and time periods.
-
I must agree about "We are the champions", but I actually like "Hand in Glove" - really catchy tune, and when I think of The Smiths it's usually the first song that comes to my mind although it's definitely not in the Top 10 of my favourite Smiths songs.
Speaking of overrated songs, one that I TRULY hate is R.E.M's "Shiny happy people" - I can't believe any sane person would ever put this song on air! And I'm a very big fan of R.E.M.
best male vocals ever...

Freddie Mercury or Eric Burdon, can't decide.
