  2. Awwww I was hanging with Spanish friends before the Spain match, but didn't actually go to watch it with them (seeming as it plays at 2am here). They are a wee bit gutted. Yay for Chile though!
  3. Yay glad people enjoyed it! I enjoyed it too! And it's pretty awesome to see some songs that I know people wouldn't have heard before getting votes- especially the kiwi stuff and the couple in Spanish! And good to see you back on here Bluesboy, hope you're feeling tonnes better! =)
  4. Well I'm absolutely positive that it isn't! The worst voice is a bit of a weird concept anyway, some not-so-pretty voices have made great music. I'm thinking Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan. I wouldn't really want them to sing me to sleep, but I can still dig their tunes.
  5. yum! I've never had much of a sweet (or sour) tooth, but I've been craving sour gummy worms all day.
  6. Awwwwww no! Hope he gets better soon and out of that hospital quick fast. Those places freak me.
  7. Viva Mexico!! And yay New Zealand for actually having a team in this! I should probably use this as a chance to learn something about football seeming as I'll probably be moving to either Spain or South America sometime in the next year and I've heard they're rather fond of this little ball game.
  8. Especially Spam that's about turning perfectly awesome curly hair straight. It's all about the fro, bro!
  9. My own frustrating habit of not putting CDs and DVDs back in the right cases. Today I ended up having to backtrack through three DVD cases and two CD cases just to find the DVD I was looking for. If only I was OCD...
  10. Really? that's really weird coz they all play fine for me, must be a zone thing or something? hmmm... Well, if you have trouble you can check out the Checks' What You Heard on Amplifier here And you can listen to Runaway by the Earlybirds here - just scroll down to tracks. And you can listen to F*** You by Lily Allen on her Myspace here And yay thanks to everyone who has voted so far! P.S. Kabob? huh? that's not how we sound when we say that, is it??
  11. Wow. And that's for military service? Out of curiosity what are the average wages in America? If I understand right, you don't have a minimum wage so I'm kind of wondering how low it would go. This thread and all the attitudes in it are pretty difficult to understand for me being from an island country. One thing you have to think about though, is that even if the laws change around immigration- say making it easier, businesses will still take advantage of immigrants- even if they're legal. I had a friend here from Peru who was on a valid work Visa, but because of the fact that his English wasn't great when he first came and that he needed a job to keep his Visa he was taken advantage of. His first three or four jobs would not give him a proper contract, they paid him under the table so that they could pay below minimum wage and avoid taxes, and one of those jobs tried to make him pay them a $3000 "bond" before they would give him a contract. Everything could have been legal, but it wasn't because they just wanted cheap labour. It's not a massive problem here, and I didn't know of it until I started making friends from South America, but it still is an issue. In America everything is on a way bigger scale. The government can say yes to immigrants or not to immigrants or they can put fines in place, but at the end of the day businesses are after money and they are reliant on cheap labour to maximise their profits- if changes are made on a legal front, businesses are likely to ignore them. Only a massive overhaul of attitudes would actually make a real difference.
  12. What's a cabal? I love Jimi, but I'm not a particularly murderous person so it's all g. I feel the same way about Metallica though...I can understand that they're a decent band, but really don't hear the greatness that is supposed to ooze out of them.
  13. I don't really hear any Nirvana in it. Is it supposed to sound like a Nirvana song?
  14. It's a long weekend, it is POURING down with rain and my wonderful mother has offered to take me to her place which means I get to do washing (seriously a lot more exciting than it sounds) and see my beautiful niece. Life is gooooooooood.
  15. Wow, only one song I voted for is in the ten...and I almost didn't vote for it. Man though, those Plasticines are all kinds of awesome. Thanks Lizard for introducing me to them (and a whole bunch of other stuff on top of that!)
  16. No way!! I like that version, but I LOVE Hendrix's. But I guess I always have been Jimi's girl.
  17. Hey Lissy, sorry to keep you hanging...I almost forgot the octopus facts that a friend told me this one time...but do now remember. Apparently octupuses (octopi? octopus'?) are really intelligent- there was this lab somewhere where they had one tank of octopus' and a few metres away they had a tank of crabs. What kept happening was that overnight the crabs would disappear and all that would be left was their shells . The people running the aquarium or whatever couldn't work out why this was so they put in a camera overnight to record whatever was happening. When they reviewed the footage they saw that the octopuses where actually crawling out of their tanks and across the ceiling into the crab tank, eating the crabs, leaving the shells behind and then heading on home to their own tank. Crazy, huh? Also in the ocean, when octopuses see sharks they will play dead so that the shark will not attack them, and as the sharks swim past they will ink them or attack them or whatever they do (sorry, I can't remember this one so well) So yay, don't you feel more educated now? I know I do P.S. I take no responsibility for these facts. They were told to me by my friend Jarrod and neither he nor I are scientists so we might have got a bit confused here, but these will be more or less true.
  18. I'm curious to know what the deal is for internet in your countries- a friend was complaining that internet here is slow, expensive and we have tiny limits compared to other countries. I don't actually know what our limits are cos the whole kb/mb size thingee confuses me, but what's the deal where you are?

This is probably the ptt where I've known the most songs (though definitely not all) which is soooooo weird since a lot of other people seem to know very few. I didn't realise how much music from across the ditch gets playtime here until I listened to this list!

  22. ENFP slightly expressed extrovert moderately expressed intuitive personality moderately expressed feeling personality moderately expressed perceiving personality Whenever I take these tests I end up being intuitive, feeling and perceiving, but I seem to swap from being an extrovert to an introvert and back again depending on what day of the week it is.
  23. I'd wondered what people who are familiar with bollywood would think of that. I'm a terrible film student and haven't seen a single Bollywood film, are there any must-sees you could recommend? I just like the ridiculousness of that video: the major culture clashes with this spanish song, a bollywood kinda thing going on, a hollywood star, these beyond satiric captions...and then the kinds of people who would listen to Devendra. It's such a mish mash and makes me think.
