That always makes me laugh, they misquoted a 12th century scholar and a £2 coin! The coin reads "Stranding on the shoulders of giants". The full original quote was in Latin, but translates to: Bernard of Chartres used to say that we are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, so that we can see more than they, and things at a greater distance, not by virtue of any sharpness of sight on our part, or any physical distinction, but because we are carried high and raised up by their giant size. Poor old Noel, mis-quoting an already abbreviated quote...

And they have the same "epic" feel to allot of their songs... like they were written to be played live, rather than for a CD...

I'm not sure I would even take that standpoint, I would simply look upon the situation as an example of the beginning of the end for music as a whole. When fans and critics of a genre, or style can't even understand what they are talking about, the lines of definitiveness have become unavoidably blurred. Rather than having international Genres we are slowly breaking down into Cliques, every social denomination creating its own Niche to fit into. Its got to the point where each listener puts the musician into stereotype, but because no one has the same stereotype, there are no demographics any more. It could of course be argued that this has always been the case, but if I do, this will have become an English Lit. essay!

Would it be fair to say then, that Emo is no longer a self-contained Genre, but a buzz-word for any band that embodies Teenage-Angst? Because thats rather depressing, especially as teenage rebellion as lain in music...

The two pieces of music that spring to mind are: Aerosmith: Don't Want to Miss A Thing. It has a great epic feel to it, and they lyrics are (for me at least) as accurate as you can get to the feeling of being in love. Pink Floyd: The Wall. The film and the music together help to portray the message of self destruction and teenage-angst-style of depression and drug use that bands struggle to do with 5 albums.

First left me apologize if this topic has already been brought up, as I should imagine it has been in the last few years. Two days ago I got a copy of "Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance. I have suffered a torrent of abuse from my friends for proclaiming that the album is quite good, and I've been labeled "Emo". Having listened to the album 20-odd times, I can honestly say, if I were going to sit alone, being depressed and self harming, there are few albums less likely to provide a sound-track than this one. Maybe I have the wrong impression of Emo, but surely REM's Everybody Hurts is a much more depressing song than any on the Black Parade album? Even leaving Genre to one side, people seem to "flame" MCR for their lyrics and simplistic riffs, but personally I can see so many ties to Pink Floyed (Both lyrically and structurally) and other classic bands, yet these guys seem to have become a target of the masses. Surely Slipknot or Cradle of Filth deserve this more than MCR? Knowing all three, I would consider them to be more Macabre, Depressed, and Morbid than most bands. I'm sure that rant should have been condensed into two separate posts, each with a carefully crafted problematic, but I felt I needed to see what people think of the topic as a whole.

All the ones on YouTube are the American ones, roughly 2:21 mins long. Its not Lonely Day, either, I love that song. Its definitely got a Linkin Park style to it. Its now got to the point where I want to know more so that I don't go insane than because I like the song! How crazy is that?!?!

I am tearing my hair out here! Having been to the cinema I saw the trailer for Disturbia, And really like the soundtrack. The trouble is I cannot find the name of the song anywhere. I believe it is only used on the UK version of the trailer.It Sounds like Linkin Park, but I have no idea. Ok, after 20 years of being an International Superstar, with a number 1 hit every year, you're fed up. You decide that the best way to avoid the screaming fans is to fake your own death. Its a big decision, but you've decided its the only way to get peace for your family. How do you do it? Personally I would pilot a small plane into a mountain, parachuting to safety first. PS: In this magical world there are no environmental repercussions.

But here lies my point, its like he is trying to write a song with a message, its like when you produce somthing becuase you have to, not becuase you want to. Me & My Monkey was a great song, because he was singing about what he wanted, rather that being told "This is the format you need to follow". It just feels fake, even though it has a perfectly valid message.

Pretty much, you have to look realy hard to to find some one who can't sing one of his songs, even those who hate him know his music. In terms of being known he is almost bigger than the beatles among the young, and bigger than the royal family among... well every one!

Ok, I know this is going to get clicked on by GD Junkies, but I was wonderning what people though on the following issues: 1. When listening to GD I feel that every word and note has been thought over and cared about. In alot of modern R&B/Rap/Pop you don't seem to get that, songs feel manafactured. Am I right, or am I just not feeling the newer music? 2. Is it wrong for a 35 year old man to be singing like a 19 year old rebel? Don't get me wrong, I love Green Day and their music, and long live their careers, but isn't it just a little odd? Like your dad trying to be cool?

Personaly I'm a big fan of Robbie as a performer, and Guy Chambers as his writer. Most..Infact all of my friend's dislike Robbie, and I wanted to know what true music lovers think of him. Also, as a side note, now he is writing his own songs with Duffy, are the songs better or worse? Personaly I feel he has lost the sincarity he had before.
