  2. So I assume your internet connection is advertised as 384 kbps? Which is kilobits. Browsers show the download speed as kilobytes. 1 kB = 8 kb, so 384/8=48kB. So your downloads from web-sites should go @ about 48k. Unless I assumed wrong :P

Anyways I found this great tweak at some other site. Of course, you need Firefox. Pages load instantly, plus FF is the best browser out there. Here it is:

"Hey all, want your FireFox browser to be exceptionally fast.....follow these simple steps

LOAD PAGES AT THE SPEED OF SOUND (DSL / BROADBAND + FIREFOX BROWSER)

You will have to switch from Internet Explorer, to FIREFOX (CLICK HERE). Trust us, if you have DSL, or Broadband, this is the most amazing tweak you can find. Your browser will load the site so much faster, that you will never use Internet Explorer again! - Download and install Firefox (click here). You can import all your bookmarks, and passwords easily, with a simple wizard.

    - Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

    network.http.pipelining

    network.http.proxy.pipelining

    network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading. - Alter the entries as follows:

    Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

    Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

    - Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT, you've never seen a browser load this fast.

Works exceptionally well on torrentbytes as the site runs quite slow at times"

Of course that would mean that a single user would cause the load of 30 users on a server, so too many ppl doing this would probably crash the server. Anywhoo, you can find Firefox here:
