Is it normal that I have just recently joined this site and I'm seeing posts from like 5 years ago and older ? When I look and see that people have been on this site for 15 years even, I'm wondering how come I have never come across it before? I hope I'm not being invasive by asking this question? I wish I had found this site along time ago. Its pretty cool. Every one seems friendly and it's really informative. God I can't believe I wasted so much time on other social media sites.

I'd get to know them and liked some of them very much. Others were just spacefillers though. (Like when you buy a CD single and there's 3 or 4 different mixes on now. Ho Hum). It was an added bonus if the B side was also a Hit.

Many Artists had great Double Sided Hits. Elvis, Everly Brothers, Ricky Nelson, The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival are just a few that come to mind.

I suppose the Biggest of all was Elvis Presley's Don't Be Cruel/Jailhouse Rock which were both #1 Hits for 11 weeks respectively in 1956.

I'm sure there's lots of others that you can think of. Would you like to share them with us ? Just cut and paste and add yours !

If you're not sure of Chart positions or year, most are listed here on Songfacts. Another way of finding out is to google an Artist/Group's Discography (see example 3 posts below). Also if necessary, I have all the Billboard Chart data from 1950 and will be pleased to help.

I'll start the list with 2 Elvis 45s.

Of course this depends a lot on how much airplay it gets; well, it used to anyway. Probably the "Idol" type TV shows and other electronic media produce more Hits than radio play now.

This thread is about pre 1980 songs, before, to quote the song - Video Killed The Radio Star.

We've all heard of Payola - DJs getting paid to 'push' a song - but sometimes a DJ would just take a liking to a particular song and play it over and over.

You might remember some in your home town ?

I'd like to share here some songs that Hit in my home, Australia, but flopped in their home country. Here's a U.K. song from 1979. It didn't chart there but made #15 in Australia, and #2 in my home State of Queensland. The DJs here were generally more adventurous than their Southern counterparts in New South Wales and Victoria; i.e. they were more ready to depart from their 'set' playlists - or given more freedom by their Station Managers.

We are a private record collection with an archive of over 500,000 78s with rare originals.

The importance of this music streaming app will be the very easy to use search function.

Trends seem to be what everyone is looking for at the moment, so with an easy search option we could allow our very own trend building. The way this would work is by letting a customer search for either their favourite track, or artist. If we don't currently have it available they will have the option to add this to their wish list. This information would then get sent back to us in a graph form, so we know exactly what people are looking for to start making our own trends.

If you would like to support our app and find out more about it's features you can visit:

I think we all like making Music lists and rating songs in order e.g. the weekly Top Ten. I thought I'd have a go at a Top 500, but break it up into different periods of time. As the Rock 'n' Roll era is generally regarded as commencing in 1955 I decided to start there, and in keeping with the Oldies Top 40 go as far as 1963 - nine years of songs.

I found that my list was leaning heavily to Elvis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Everly Brothers, and other favourites of mine. To make my list more diverse, I decided to limit my choices to only ONE song per Artist. I also considered only songs which made Billboard's Pop or Rhythm and Blues Charts. Also, I made each song's 'year' the one in which it peaked - i.e. if a song entered the Charts in 1954 but reached its highest position in 1955, it's a '1955 song'. I excluded songs which entered the Charts in 1963 but peaked in 1964 - they're '1964 songs'. HUH ? I had to leave out the Supremes' 'When The Lovelight....' as it entered the Charts in late 1963 but peaked in 1964.

I didn't set out to be controversial. Some songs that were #1 in the U.S.just didn't get much airplay here, e.g. 'Fingertips - Pt2'. It was regarded as maybe a 'one off' by a child prodigy (how wrong were our DJs )Also any song that included lyrics like "I'll never kiss your lips again, they buried you today" is hard for me to warm to, but "Teen Angel" was the most successful of it's genre, so I acknowledged that. Basically, I ignored Chart positions and tried to arrange the songs in my preference order.

ALL feedback - good, or bad(which is better than indifference) is most welcome.

You've made it through the preliminary round of 50 countdowns voting songs up and down the charts. Now it's time to take another look at the songs we've voted the highest and pick our favorites of the favorites; our Ultimate Golden Oldies Top 40.

For each of the next 4 weeks, I will be giving a list of 40 songs, compiled from the 120 highest ranking songs on the weekly charts. All Songfactors (whether or not you have voted in a past GO-40) will have the opportunity to vote for your 10 favorites, just as in the weekly Top 10's and Ultimate Top 10's. Rank your favorites from 1 to 10, with #1 getting 10 points and #10 getting 1 point.

The top 10 songs each week will qualify for our Ultimate Top 40. Each song will be listed alphabetically in the 1st 3 Ultimate votes; then in week 4, it will be a 2nd chance for the 40 highest-charting songs that did not make it through phase 1 to qualify as "wild card entries".

Ready? Here we go!

PLEASE NOTE:

A NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE SAID THEY HAVE DIFFICULTY THINKING OF NEW SONGS. THIS CHARTS SITE SHOULD HELP YOU OUT WITH SELECTING SOME SONGS OF THE ERA. JUST GO TO "SELECT A DECADE" & CLICK ON 50s OR 60s.

ALSO, SOME HAVE SAID THEY HAVE TROUBLE VOTING DOWN SONGS. THE THING IS, TO GET NEW SONGS INTO THE CHART, SOME OTHERS HAVE TO DROP OUT !

I'VE SEARCHED 'OLDIES' SITES, BUT I CAN'T FIND ANY WITH AN INTERACTIVE CHART LIKE THIS. WE ARE UNIQUE! PLEASE SUPPORT THE TOP 40 THIS WEEK.
