Hello again. DJ Ceejay with you once again for GO-Top 40.Last week, Dion stopped wandering and stayed for a 2nd week at #1. Will he make it 3 or will he be blue?
3 songs drop out this week:
Running Scared by Roy Orbison runs right out of the countdown this week after peaking at #16.
Cry to Me by Solomon Burke sheds its last tear on the chart this week after crying its way up to #1.
And El Paso by Marty Robbins ends its 2nd run more successful than the 1st, spending a week at #11 4 weeks ago.
The 1st of 3 new songs debuts at #40, and it’s the 4th hit by Chuck Berry to grace our countdown, You Can’t Catch Me.
At #36 is a re-entry from Brenda Lee, I’m Sorry. I’m Sorry already surpasses its peak from its brief 1st chart run, when it spent a lone week at #39.
And at #34 is a song recorded by an artist who was only 12 years old, Fingertips (Part II) by Stevie Wonder.
The bottom 10 looks like this:
TW40 NEW YOU CAN’T CATCH ME CHUCK BERRY
TW39 LW33 IT 'S LATE RICKY NELSON
TW38 LW19 KANSAS CITY WILBERT HARRISON
TW37 LW26 TWIST AND SHOUT ISLEY BROTHERS
TW36 R/E I’M SORRY BRENDA LEE
TW35 LW40 COME SOFTLY TO ME FLEETWOODS
TW34 NEW FINGERTIPS (PART II) STEVIE WONDER
TW33 LW30 HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY TUNE WEAVERS
TW32 LW20 SURFER GIRL BEACH BOYS
TW31 LW36 TOO YOUNG NAT 'KING' COLE
Del Shannon makes a 10-digit leap with his 2nd chart hit, as Keep Searchin’ keeps searching its way toward the top of the chart, moving up from #38 to #28.
The rest of the songs from 30 to 21 are as follows:
TW30 LW29 MONSTER MASH BOBBY PICKETT & CRYPT-KICKERS
TW29 LW34 RAMBLIN' ROSE NAT 'KING' COLE
TW28 LW38 KEEP SEARCHIN' DEL SHANNON
TW27 LW28 DUKE OF EARL GENE CHANDLER
TW26 LW35 GREENFIELDS BROTHERS FOUR
TW25 LW25 WHERE THE BOYS ARE CONNIE FRANCIS
TW24 LW27 ONE FINE DAY CHIFFONS
TW23 LW22 BONY MORONIE LARRY WILLIAMS
TW22 LW24 TWO FACES HAVE I LOU CHRISTIE
TW21 LW21 WALK LIKE A MAN 4 SEASONS
That gets us to the halfway point. We’ll be back with the Top 20 a little bit later.
And I'm proud to be an American

Welcome back to GO Top 40. Now that you’ve had time to peruse the bottom 20, let’s get to the Top 20.
Until this week, 2 songs had been tied for the biggest jump in the countdown, each moving up 22 spots: I Walk the Line by Johnny Cash, and Spanish Harlem by Ben E. King. Ironically, in the same week Spanish Harlem drops out of the top 10, they are joined by a 3rd song making a 22-notch move, up from #39 to #17: A Town Without Pity by Gene Pitney.
Here are the rest of the songs from 20 to 11:
TW20 LW18 TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY BABY BOBBY VEE
TW19 LW5 GREEN ONIONS (I) BOOKER T. & MG'S
TW18 LW13 HITCH HIKE MARVIN GAYE
TW17 LW39 TOWN WITHOUT PITY GENE PITNEY
TW16 LW17 MY SPECIAL ANGEL BOBBY HELMS
TW15 LW9 SPANISH HARLEM BEN E.KING
TW14 LW23 JUDY'S TURN TO CRY LESLEY GORE
TW13 LW14 BO DIDDLEY BO DIDDLEY
TW12 LW15 STAGGER LEE LLOYD PRICE
TW11 LW12 WITCH DOCTOR DAVID SEVILLE
2 new songs enter the Top 10 this week:
As mentioned last week, Nino Tempo & April Stevens become the 1st duo to reach the Top 10 since the Everly Brothers, as Deep Purple climbs from #16 to #9.
And Ol’ Blue Eyes makes his 1st appearance in the top 10, as All the Way goes all the way into the top 10, up 3 from #11 to #8. These are the songs from #10 to #6:
TW10 LW6 CHAIN GANG SAM COOKE
TW9 LW16 DEEP PURPLE NINO TEMPO & APRIL STEVENS
TW 8 LW 11 ALL THE WAY FRANK SINATRA
TW 7 LW 8 CRY BABY GARNET MIMMS & ENCHANTERS
TW 6 LW10 PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON PETER, PAUL & MARY
Now for the top 5, At #5 is the 1st top 5 hit for the trio, Peter Paul & Mary:
TW 5 LW 7 BLOWIN' IN THE WIND PETER, PAUL & MARY
Holding positions at #4 and #3 respectively are:
TW 4 LW 4 POOR LITTLE FOOL RICKY NELSON
TW 3 LW 3 SILHOUETTES RAYS
Wandering out of the penthouse this week is the former #1 for Dion:
TW 2 LW 1 THE WANDERER DION
Meaning there is a new #1 this week, by the 3rd artist to have 2 #1’s, joining and Dion. The 2nd #1 for the Polish Prince is:
TW 1 LW 2 BLUE ON BLUE BOBBY VINTON
Well, there you have it. The 40 biggest oldies hits as voted by our panel this week. Log in again next week when we count them down all over again. Until then, keep your head in the stars and keep reaching for the ground.

Excellent! So great to see Bobby score his 2nd #1 on our chart. Even better to see Ol' Blue Eyes climb into the Top 10. I'd like to see both All The Way and Town Without Pity get to #1 at some point.

It's great to see Chuck Berry make the Top 40 again. He influenced so many artists, and he should be rewarded.
