So....

My question is....

Was Dewey Bunnell on drugs? Trying to just rhyme in time? Refering to the smell of the animals? Doesn't matter, just incoherent lyrics, let it go?

OR WHAT?

I don't know and it's a shame because Ventura Highway is one of my favorites of theirs.

Anyway, I'll show you mine since you showed me yours....

"And cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of sir galahad."

"In the desert you can remember your name
cause there aint no one for to give you no pain"

"He flies the sky like an eagle in the eye
Of a hurricane that's abandoned"

Lullabies look in your eyes,
run around the same old town,
doesn't mean that much to me
to mean that much to you.

Those lines make perfect sense to me... I don´t know about the lullabies but that Neil Young sentence has always been one of my favorites. Since I heard "Old Man" for the first time, in 70? 71? I guess I´ll make it my sig... .cool:

I agree. It's a good sentence, which only makes it funnier to precede it with a nonsensical line.

I always thought the "alligator lizards in the air" were cloud formations. Actually, I love that line, and that song. And, yes, he most likely was on drugs.

Would you like to? Would you like to? Would you like to do a number with me?

To me, all 3 songs follow the same theme, freedom from the pain, stress and disquietude that can come from just living life. Maybe running away from life. So the lyrics make perfect sense to me, for the most part...

"Cause the free wind is blowin' through your hair
and the day surround your daylight there
Seasons cryin' no despair
Alligator lizards in the air"

These make perfect sense in the context of the theme. Just as Sammy says, the clouds, the peace and freedom you might feel gazing up at them.

"In the desert you can remember your name
cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain"

Some days I'd love to feel as though I could dig out of the stress and pain I've felt at times, and feel just enough peace to remember my name..

"Cause I understand you've been running from the man
That goes by the name of the Sandman
He flies the sky like an eagle in the eye
Of a hurricane that's abandoned"

More about peace, the peace of the sky when a hurricane has been abandoned, or is over. The peace of the end of life getting closer, and running from that. Running away from life, with the Sandman hot on your heels.

Perfect sense, to me. It's all in the context.

Definatly on drugs.

...Naked, singin' on the windmill...

I have always been partial to Moonage Daydream:

I'm an alligator, I'm a mama-papa coming for you
I'm the space invader, I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you
Keep your mouth shut, you're squawking like a big monkey bird
And I'm busting up my brains for the words

Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Don't fake it baby, lay the real thing on me
The church of man, love, is such a holy place to be
Make me baby, make me know you really care
Make me jump into the air

Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Freak out, far out, in out

I guess the drugs then are the explanation for:

1-"for there aint no one for to give you no pain"
Gee, how about, "For there's no one to give you pain"?

2-If the abandoned hurricane no longer exists then in what eye does the eagle fly?

3-WTF is the tropic of Sir Galahad? And who was it who ever said that cause was the reason for the evening? Because, well...that just doesn't make sense.

Drugs indeed.

I found this:
  • Quote:
"He got joo-joo eyeball"
A joo-joo (or ju-ju) is a candy or sweet, like a jellybean. But this also says to me something shiny, voluminous, bigger than ordinary. The important thing that you might miss is that its only ONE eyeball. Just one eye. Or perhaps the Third Eye of Krishna consciousness, of spiritual awareness.
