Trashy Trivia

In this thread you just add some tid-bit(s) that you've picked up on on life's path -interesting or not , but still knowledge , afterall.

Lenin's brother was an anarchist ; not a socialist nor a communist, as they would have found them distasteful -too organized . Real anarchists acted in the paradox of acting solely alone -no friends , nor associates -get it ? He was caught by the Czarist police and hung . A young Lenin swore revenge on the system thereafter.

Next time you hear some ass talking or wearing /spray painting anarchy, be sure to have a good chuckle -unless they are a loner and carrying a bomb. :D

Who was the 'new ' 12th apostle after Judas ' broke up the band ' , so to speak ?

... bloody Paul MacCartney !

Matthias:

"In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) and said, "Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who served as a guide for those who arrested Jesus--he was one of our number and shared in this ministry." (With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) "For," said Peter, "it is written in the book of Psalms: 'May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,' and 'May another take his place of leadership.' Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from John's baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection." So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, "Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs." Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles."

ACTS 1:15-26

The last execution in the Tower of London took place during what war?

Choose Your Answer: A: War of the Roses, B: Napoleonic Wars, C: World War I, D: World War II

A: The last execution in the Tower of London took place during World War II when Josef Jakobs, a German soldier, was captured while parachuting into England. After a quick trial in Brixton, he was convicted of espionage, brought to the Tower, held overnight, and executed by firing squad on August 14, 1941. The chair in which he sat during his execution is still on display. Jakobs was one of hundreds who were executed at the Tower of London during its 900 year history, and as a result it has gained a reputation as one of the most haunted locations in Britain.

A rainbow can be seen only in the morning or late afternoon. It is a phenomenon that can occur only when the sun is 40 degrees or less above the horizon.

Only one person walked with Mozart's coffin from the church to the cemetery for its burial in an unmarked pauper's grave.

Humphrey Bogart's ashes are in an urn that also contains a small gold whistle. Lauren Bacall had the whistle inscribed "If you need anything, just whistle" – the words she spoke to him in their first film together, To Have and Have Not.

An earthworm can grow only so long. A well-fed adult will depend on what kind of worm it is, how many segments it has, how old it is and how well fed it is. An Lumbricus terrestris will be from 90-300 millimeters long.

A worm has no arms, legs or eyes.

There are approximately 2,700 different kinds of earthworms.

Worms live where there is food, moisture, oxygen and a favorable temperature. If they don’t have these things, they go somewhere else.

In one acre of land, there can be more than a million earthworms.

The largest earthworm ever found was in South Africa and measured 22 feet from its nose to the tip of its tail.

Charles Darwin spent 39 years studying earthworms more than 100 years ago.

Worms are cold-blooded animals.

Earthworms have the ability to replace or replicate lost segments. This ability varies greatly depending on the species of worm you have, the amount of damage to the worm and where it is cut. It may be easy for a worm to replace a lost tail, but may be very difficult or impossible to replace a lost head if things are not just right.

Baby worms are not born. They hatch from cocoons smaller than a grain of rice.

The Australian Gippsland Earthworm grows to 12 feet long and can weigh 1-1/2 pounds.

Even though worms don’t have eyes, they can sense light, especially at their anterior (front end). They move away from light and will become paralyzed if exposed to light for too long (approximately one hour).

If a worm’s skin dries out, it will die.

Worms are hermaphrodites. Each worm has both male and female organs. Worms mate by joining their clitella (swollen area near the head of a mature worm) and exchanging sperm. Then each worm forms an egg capsule in its clitellum. (Yes, you read that correctly.)

Worms can eat their weight each day.

Soooooeeeee!!! Hog trivia from a former pig farmer...

Pigs are often referred to as dirty or filthy animals because most assume a hog will eat food from the same place they expel their waste. This is myth, many simply refuse to eat until food is given in a neater area. In the case where there is no clean area for food, many will only eat out of need, usually resulting in sickness. This is why good farmers use a trough!

Pigs don't have sweat glands but have a large layer of fat, which causes over-heating of the body (especially during summer months) which is easily fixed with a mud bath.

3 full grown pigs can eat an entire human body (bones included) within 48 hours. (if your in a rush, find a whole pen full! A dozen will have the job done overnight!)

A fight between two boars (males) is a fight to the death. A duel may last from about 15 minutes to over 12 hours. In many cases, the victor of the battle succumbs to the battle wounds and also dies.

I have always wondered why pigs would eat a human body. I know they are omnivores, but we surely can't be that tasty with all the junk we eat...

More seriously though - they are known to eat other pigs as well as their own young, so they are cannibals too.

Pigs may be even weirder than hermaphrodite worms.

The primary purpose of growing rice in flooded paddies is to drown the weeds surrounding the young seedlings — rice can, in fact, be grown in drained areas.

Think about what pigs eat, but we still eat them... :P

Actually, we eat pork from pigs that are practically sterile if you're speaking in pig terms. My family used to raise pigs as well, slaughter em, butcher em, and eat them all winter. Nothing better. Chickens now are disgusting - they really will eat anything, including each other (the weak etc), and you could very well be eating those same chickens the next time you place your order. :P

I should have been clearer, I suppose...

Pigs would have to be pretty hungry before devouring a human.

Also: pigs eating their young is a sign of post-partum depression which is mostly found in a sow delivering for her first time. The depression may show itself in several ways, one being ignoring the young altogether. Usually the depression won't manifest itself for any other deliveries the pig has. First-timers have it rough, I suppose..

Lucky is right tho... pigs raised for human consumption is VERY sterile. Manitoba pork is highly regarded as best in the world. Strict regulations keep the hogs happier than a pig in ... oh, nevermind! :jester:

Jayne Mansfield decorated her "Pink Palace" by writing to 1,500 furniture and building suppliers and asking for free samples. She told the donors they could then brag that their goods were in her outlandish mansion. The pitch worked, and Jayne received over $150,000 worth of free merchandise.

On his way home to visit his parents, a Harvard student fell between two railroad cars at the station in Jersey City, New Jersey, and was rescued by an actor on his way to visit a sister in Philadelphia. The student was Robert Lincoln, heading for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The actor was Edwin Booth, the brother of the man who a few weeks later would murder the student's father.

This year's theme at the famous carnival parade in Rio de Janeiro is... "the history of yoghurt".

The health benefits of iogurte (yogurt) was the theme of a single samba school, this year. There is no overall Carnaval theme. Each school picks their own thematic interpretation. Considering that there are dozens of schools competing and their overriding desire to present something unique, the theme of yogurt producing beautiful bodies is not surprising.

Everything You Wanted to know about Aardvarks.

The aardvark is found on what continent ?

Africa. Aardvarks live in Africa savannas, open grasslands, woodlands, and scrub. They range from southern Egypt to the Cape of Good Hope in the far south of Africa.

What does 'aardvark' mean in the Afrikaans language ?

earth pig.

The aardvark is related to the anteater.

They look alike, but are not related. The aardvark has no close living relatives. Scientists placed it in its own family (Orycteropodidae).

Are aardvarks more active during the day or during the night ?

Aardvarks sleep during the day, and are active at night. They are a nocturnal animal. If the nights are cold, sometimes they will come out in the daylight to lie in the sun and get warm.

What is the aardvark's favorite food ?

ants and termites. Aardvarks are insectivores. They use their claws to dig into ant hills and termite mounds and then stick their long tongue into the nest or mound to get the insects.

Which of these is true about aardvark teeth ?

very soft. They have very soft teeth, without hard enamel, and are a mammal with teeth that have no roots. The teeth grow and are replaced during the aardvark's whole lifetime !

Aardvarks live underground in ____ .

burrows. The burrow may be a simple hole in the ground, or can be much fancier, with as many as 20 entrances and exits and several 'rooms'. Aardvarks keep their homes clean. They 'go to the bathroom' in a hole they dig...making the hole some distance from their burrow, they cover up what they do with dirt.

A full grown aardvark is about how long ?

5 to 6 feet. About two feet of the aardvark's length is its tail !

What sounds does an aardvark make when it 'communicates' ?

it barks and grunts. To call their babies, they often bark in a high-pitch.

How many babies does a mother aardvark generally have at one time ?

one. They give birth to only one baby at a time. The baby is born without hair and stays inside the burrow for at least two weeks. It drinks the mother's milk for about four months and then begins to eat insect.
