Songs about hospitals/surgery/illness

There's "Plastic Surgery" by Adam And The Ants, but it's pretty grim stuff, tbh. Laced with cruel, ironic humour.

A favourite track of mine, Devo - "The Day My Baby Gave Me A Surprise" might just about, at a pinch, fit the bill. It refers to a cold white (hospital) room, where she (my baby) "picked up a pen from beside her bed and wrote me a scribbled note". Again, the subject matter is a bit, how you might say, darkly humourous.

Farin will soon mention an album by a slimy band :)

I have no idea what you mean

aaaaaaaanyway, I know a certain album by the wonderfull band Eels called "Electro-Shock Blues" that has some songs you could be interested in :)

almost all songs could be used, but just to give some examples:

Hospital Food

or

The Medication's Wearing Off

not really 'happy' songs, but they fit the theme :)

You're a big fan of Eels, right? "Slimy" means viscous, slippery, etc. And the eel, it is a slimy fish, and no mistake.

So, anyway, you get there in the end, one way or another. :)

I'm looking for some songs to put together that specifically mention surgical procedures, hospitals, illness/sickness.

How about dying?

Bloodrock's song D.O.A. :

Laying here looking at the ceiling

Someone lays a sheet across my chest

Something warm is flowing down my fingers

Pain is flowing all through my back

I try to move my arms and there's no feeling

And when I look I see there's nothing there

The face beside me stopped it totally bleeding

The girl I knew has such a distant stare

I remember

We were flying along and hit something in the air

I remember

We were flying along and hit something in the air

Then I looked straight at the attendant

His face is pale as it can be

He bends and whispers something softly

He says there's no chance for me

I remember

We were flying along and hit something in the air

I remember

We were flying along and hit something in the air

Life is flowing out my body

Pain is flowing out with my blood

The sheets are red and moist where I'm lying

God in Heaven, teach me how to die

The Hospital Song ~ 10cc

Nobody sends me birthday cards

Nobody brings me flowers

I'm just here for operations

I've been out for hours

When I come to I'll wet my bed

`Cos when I get mad I sink so low

As matron knows

I get off on what you give me, darling

I get off on what you give to me

Yeh, I get off on what you give me, darling

I get off on what you give to me

And when I go to that seedy ward

Up in the sky

You'll be waiting

With a hypodermic needle

And a graph

Here comes the dark

(I'm grateful for my anaesthetic)

Out goes the spark

(Delirious and apathetic)

When I come to

I'll wet my bed

And when I get well

I'll take revenge

I'll wreak my wrath

On all blood donors

And their sisters

Visiting time and flowers

When sister brings that bedpan round

I'll p*ss like April showers

I get off on what you give me, darling

I get off on what you give to me

Yeh, I get off on what you give me, darling

I get off on what you give to me

And when I go

I'll die of plaster casting love

Here's a considerably less dark song on that subject. Needless to say, if I were doing "hospital time," this is the song I'd prefer.

A Part Of Me, A Part Of You (The Hospital Song) - by Danny Lopes, Sr

Everytime I look at you

I just don't know what to do

When I see you

Since you came into my life

Such a change in me I can't explain

Ever since I met you

While strollilng through the park one sunny day

It was love when I first saw you

And this love I really feel down deep inside

It's not often that I feel this way

But since you came into my life

You have now become a part of me

And I, a part of you

Source: Moe Keale CD Aloha Is A Part of Me - The composer, saw a lovely young girl strolling in a park and was inspired to write this song. She became his first wife, Mary Ann. Daniel Antone Lopes, Sr., a prolific composer, worked for Queen's Hospital 23 years. He volunteered his services after he retired and serenaded many patients with this song that became known as The Hospital Song.

I'm looking for physical illness songs mostly, but mental illness would count as well :) Thank you for the ideas so far!

Try "Never Thought" by Roger (RCPM)

and "Psychosis" by... guess who.

If I was a killer, how would I kill?

I'd use the government.

If I was a dreamer, what would I dream?

I'd dream about yesterday.

If I was a dancer, where would I dance?

Out in the graveyard!

You can say anything that you wanna say

Be anything that you wanna be

Pray anywhere that you think that you gotta pray, yea.

Don't you count on me.

If I was a teacher, what would I teach?

I'd teach corruption.

If I was a preacher, what would I preach?

I'd preach hypocrisy.

If I was a dancer, where would I dance?

Out in the graveyard!

You can say anything that you wanna say

Be anything that you wanna be

Pray anywhere that you think that you gotta pray, yea.

Don't you count on me.

Me............Yea.

If I was a gambler, what would I bet?

I'd bet your life.

If I was an angel, what would I save?

I'd save my money.

If I was a dancer, where would I dance?

Out in the graveyard!

You can say anything that you wanna say

Be anything that you wanna be

Pray anywhere that you think that you gotta pray, yea.

Don't you count on me.

You can say anything that you wanna say

Be anything that you wanna be

Pray anywhere that you think that you gotta pray, yea.

Don't you count on me.
